Under the name "The Hindustan Sugar Mills Limited," it was incorporated in 1931. In addition to producing electricity, the company makes sugar, alcohol, and ethanol.

Q1.What are the Products and Service offerings of the Company ?

Sugar (76%) In the fiscal year 2023, the company processed approximately 14 million metric tons (MMT) of sugarcane, achieving a sugar recovery rate of around 10%. A significant portion, totaling 10.20 MMT of sugarcane, was diverted towards producing B-heavy molasses, resulting in a slightly lower sugar recovery rate.

Power (12%) During FY23, the company generated 717 million units (MUs) of power, of which 171 MUs were exported. The company operates 14 power plants, and surplus power after meeting internal demands was supplied to the Uttar Pradesh state grid.

Distillery (11%) The company produced 1,67,649 kiloliters (KL) of ethanol in FY23 from B-heavy molasses, with ethanol sales amounting to 1,63,370 KL. Operations at all distilleries ran for 250 days during the fiscal year.

Kushagra N Bajaj is the Promoter and Non-Executive Chairman of the $2.5-billion diversified Bajaj Group with major interests in Sugar, Ethanol, Power and FMCG businesses. He has a B.Sc. in Economics, Political Philosophy, and Finance from Carnegie Mellon and M.Sc. in Marketing from the Northwestern University (Chicago). Kushagra’s academic qualifications are matched only by his expansive business pursuits, his altruistic attitude that he brings to business and his eagle-eyed vision.

Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma

Managing Director

Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, aged about 57, years has been working with us since 2016. In a career spanning over three decades, Mr. Sharma has worked extensively in the areas of cane procurement & development, liaising with farmers & government officials, supply chain management and operations. In his seven years at BHSL, his expertise in the aforementioned areas has led to minimising the "cut to crush" time, which in turn led to significant improvements in the operational performance of the company's Bilai unit.

Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Limited (BHSL) sells its products to the following main markets:


  • BHSL sells its sugar under the brand name "Bajaj Bhu Mahashakti" to various wholesale and retail customers in the domestic Indian market.


  • BHSL is one of the largest producers of green fuel ethanol in India. It sells its ethanol production to oil marketing companies to meet their blending requirements.


  • BHSL generates electricity from the bagasse produced in its sugar facilities. It utilizes the generated power for captive consumption to run its plants and sells surplus power to the Uttar Pradesh state grid.


  • BHSL sells its sugar by-products like molasses, bagasse, fly ash, and press mud to various industrial customers
